Having racked up almost 200 appearances in five years Stoke, Simonsen has won the respect and appreciation of the supporters. Famed for his impossibly anti-receding hairline, having gone from cueball to shaggy during his time with the club, he is a gifted shot-stopper, if not the most commanding of ‘keepers. It is perhaps this lack of authority that led him to lose his place to loanee Carlo Nash in early 2008, and then play second fiddle to Thomas Sorensen for much of our debut Premier League season. With one year left on his contract, he has indicated his intention to remain at the Britannia Stadium and fight for his place, a display of loyalty that has earned him plaudits from fans.
