A very experienced and popular goalkeeper, Sorensen joined Stoke in July 2008 on a free transfer after being released by Aston Villa, where he had not player for a year after falling out with manager Martin O’Neill.
Immediately made first choice for the Potters, his early displays were shaky, but as he regained form he made many classy showings, impressing with his shot-stopping abilities and command of his area, going on to finish as runner up in the player of the season poll during his debut season.

With passionate celebrations after every victory, and the habit of regularly throwing his gloves into the crowd, the Dane, who has won more than 80 caps for his country has endeared himself to the Stoke support and dismissed strong speculation both before the start of the 2009/10 season and midway through it, that he is to move to German giants Bayern Munich, though the signing of Asmir Begović in January 2010 significantly increased the competition he faces for his starting place.
